At the time, it was state-of-the-art. But when the 486 came out, I bought a new PC. Same with the Pentium. But today, I'm not really sure what MPU I'm using. Haven't felt the need for an upgrade in a while, and I can't imagine what would prompt me to buy one. All of the new apps that used to require a more advanced platform are now web based.
